A humanitarian boat for Gaza, with 12 activists on board – including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg – will continue her trip “until the last minute”, announced Sunday after Israel ordered her soldiers to block the ship.
“We will remain mobilized until the last minute – until Israel breaks the Internet and the networks,” Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament, told AFP, named Madleen.
The Madleen, which is part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, left Sicily last week with a cargo of emergency supplies to “break the blockade of Israel on Gaza”, where the Israeli war entered its 21st month.
“There are twelve American civilians on board. We are not armed. There is only humanitarian aid,” said Hassan.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the soldiers to prevent the boat from reaching Gaza.
The coalition responded in a press release on X, saying that it expected “interception and an attack from Israel at any time” and calling for people to protect them.
Nationals from Germany, France, Brazil, Turkey, Sweden, Spain and the Netherlands are on the boat.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition was founded in 2010 to oppose this blockade and provide humanitarian aid.
