LIVE – French Track Championship: Etienne Oliviero in the speed semi-final

Etienne Oliviero in the speed semi-final

The last morning of the “France” Elites is over. In the Tempo race, third event of the omnium, Benjamin Thomas marked his territory (33 cumulative points) while Bryan Coquard (3rd) confirmed that he had not made the trip to Loudéac for nothing.

Marine Le Net finished second in this same tempo race behind Mélanie Dupin, although she was involved in a fall with Clémence Cherreau three laps from the finish.

In men’s speed, the “big thighs” impressed. The double European champion in the specialty, Sébastien Vigier, will face the surprise French kilometer champion, Etienne Oliviero, in the first semi-final from 4:25 p.m., the start time of this final day. A promising generational shock!

Thomas Denis on the omnium podium after the first event

The Morbihannais is provisional 3rd in the omnium after the first event, the scratch. Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) won the scratch, ahead of Louis Pijourlet. The 2024 Olympic champion, Benjamin Thomas, is provisionally 5th.

The favorites at the omnium qualifying meeting, Le Net impresses

A first points race took place this Sunday morning, to determine the 17 riders who would take part, all day, in the omnium. Among the men, Benjamin Thomas and Bryan Cocquard, 4th and 6th in their heats, played it out. Morbihan’s Jean-Louis Le Ny was convincing by competing in five of the six qualifying sprints (20 points, 3rd in his series). Same satisfaction regarding Hugo Pommelet, the VCP Loudéac rider, who will therefore be one of the 19 invited to participate in the four omnium events.

Among the women, new demonstration from Marie Le Net who took two turns on almost all of her competitors to glean 48 points (!). By winning the first sprint, Emma Henry played it smart. The runner from Coëtmieux will also be one of the 19 elected, just like Ilona Rouat, her comrade from the Brittany Team.
