Commerce secretary Howard Lunick said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump’s new reciprocal rates were just a response to the way the United States had been treated on trade.
“The European Union will not take America’s chicken. They will not take America lobsters. They hate our beef because our beef is magnificent and theirs is weak,” said Funick on “Hannity” of Fox News.
Lutnick added that he thought it was “incredible” that other countries did not buy more goods in America. He also accused other tear nations in the United States.
“Finally, finally, the man behind the resolved office, the man from the oval office, Donald Trump, finally defends our farmers, breeders and manufacturers,” said Lux “To let the world understand – either they buy our products, or do not bother to come here unless you pay for the right to come.”
Trump on Wednesday signed an imposing decree of reciprocal prices in countries that have placed prices on American products.
“Reciprocal. It means they do it, and we do it. Very simple. I cannot become easier than that,” said Trump in his remarks.
Trump said he would charge for “about half” countries of what these countries billed. Prices will start at a reference rate of 10% and will allocate 185 countries, said Trump.
The European Union was struck by a tariff of 20%, while India received a tariff of 26%. China has received an additional 34%rate. This is in addition to the tariff of 20% that Trump had already imposed on China last month, bringing the total to 54%.
Lutnick had called for the use of reciprocal prices during his confirmation hearings as a secretary to trade in January.
“We are horribly treated by the global trade environment. They all have higher prices, non -tariff trade barriers and subsidies,” said Larck during his confirmation audience of the Senate.
“They treat us badly. We must be better treated. We must be treated with respect, and we can use prices to create reciprocity, equity and respect,” continued Lutnick.
The representatives of Lutnick in the Commerce Department did not respond to a request for comments to Business Insider.
