The massive backlash prompted some of Wilkinson’s supporters to come to his defense.

“Lisa Wilkinson didn’t go that far to intentionally endanger anyone. As a young editor, she educated a generation of teenagers about their bodies. I would not have survived the abuse I ‘had suffered without the information she offered in Dolly mag. Everyone is so fast on the bandwagon,’ one person tweeted Thursday.

Another said, “But she didn’t pass judgment, give her opinion, or mention anything about the case!” How compromising is contempt? It’s just the defendant looking for an excuse not to go to trial.

The network backed Wilkinson and hired one of Australia’s top lawyers, fearing she could be charged with contempt of court.

Wilkinson and Network 10 have since sent an urgent letter to the judge offering to stop talking about the case altogether.
