Lionel Messi two trophies behind Dani Alves as most decorated footballer as Sergio Ramos scores a heel like Alessia Russo in PSG Trophee des Champions win

Paris Saint-Germain won their first trophy of the 2022/23 season in the Trophée des Champions on Sunday – the last of Lionel Messi’s career.

Now Messi – who has signed up on the scoresheet – only needs two more trophies to be the most decorated player in history.

The Argentine opened the scoring for the Parisians in the first half, bursting into the box and, despite having the option of facing Pablo Sarabia, found the net himself.

But winning the PSG trophy means something else for Messi.

He is now just two honors behind record holder Dani Alves – Messi’s former Barcelona team-mate has 43 trophies, Messi now has 41.

And if Sunday’s encounter has anything to do with it, Messi can hope to overtake Alves’ record during his time in Paris.

Christophe Galtier’s side went wild against their Nantes opponents, scoring four unanswered times – a marked improvement on some of the sub-par performances PSG put in last season under former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Neymar has scored twice, raising hopes that he and Messi can regain their old goalscoring form which faltered last season.

But it was Sergio Ramos’ goal in the Ligue 1 champions’ win that stole the show.

Just like England star Alessia Russo did in the Women’s Euro semi-finals against Sweden, the Spaniard launched an outrageous shot with a back heel.

Following an early save from the Nantes goalkeeper, Ramos saw his chance and, after glancing over his shoulder, pushed it into the net.
