Lionel Messi: Inter Miami superstar sets new MLS record

The Inter Miami CF captain continued his legendary form in Saturday’s 3-3 draw against St. Louis CITY SC at Chase Stadium, becoming the fastest player in MLS history to reach 25 goals. With 12g/13a in 12 games, Messi broke the previous record (16 games) held by LAFC’s Carlos Vela during his Landon Donovan MLS MVP-winning 2019 season.

Messi first struck a superb left-footed shot from inside the box after a vintage back-and-forth with his long-time FC Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba. Barça’s connection delivered again just before the half-time break, with Messi finding Alba on the left before the former Spain international set up Luis Suárez at the far post for Miami’s second goal of the evening .

The superstar No.10’s latest masterful display came in his final match for the Herons before heading out on international duty with Argentina ahead of this summer’s 2024 Copa América tournament.
