Lincoln woman transforms days after fatal hit-and-run crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln woman turned herself in two days after a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 22-year-old man.

The Lincoln Police Department said Cindy Martinez, 22, turned herself into the Lancaster County Jail and was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death.

Shortly after 8:20 p.m. on May 14, Lincoln Police went to the area of North 37th Street and Cornhusker Highway looking for an unconscious person in the street.

LPD said a passerby found the man, later identified as Alejandro Murillo of Lincoln, and called dispatch. Emergency personnel performed lifesaving measures on scene and transported Murillo to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

LPD said investigators interviewed people with knowledge of the incident and reviewed evidence. The investigation determined that Murillo was struck by a vehicle driven by Martinez, the mother of her child, and that her subsequent actions while driving led to her death.

The investigation is ongoing. Those with information can call our non-emergency number at 402-441-6000 or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
