Local meteorologists are forecasting a chance of snow showers beginning Saturday evening, with little to no snow accumulation expected through Sunday.
“Best chance of snow accumulation comes from Sunday evening to early Monday morning when 1-3″ is possible, most west of 495,” WBZ meteorologist Lexie O’Connor said on Twitter.
Boston Office of the National Weather Service (NWS) tweeted about a two chance of snowfall this weekend, saying, “…ocean effect snow showers can produce up to an inch of snow in parts of [eastern Massachusetts] tonight. A better chance of snow begins Sunday afternoon when most [southeastern New England] can expect 1-4″ as low pressure slides towards our SW.”
The NWS shared a map showing forecast snowfall amounts from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. The greatest snowfall amounts are expected in far western Massachusetts and northwestern Connecticut, with 3 to 4 inches possible. The central part of the states can get between 1 and 2 inches, while eastern Massachusetts and most of Rhode Island will likely see less than an inch. No snow is expected on Cape Cod and the islands.
Next week’s daily forecast
The NWS office in Boston predicts the snow will end early Monday morning, giving way to a mostly sunny day with highs near 35. Tuesday and Wednesday will remain clear and sunny, with highs around 37 both days.
A mix of rain and snow is expected Thursday and Friday in eastern Massachusetts, with rain turning to snow in the central and western parts of the state. Thursday’s high will be near 42 and Friday’s will hit 44.
Looking ahead, AccuWeather’s forecast for next Saturday will be dry but cloudy and windy, with wind gusts of up to 44 mph and a high of 41. Next Sunday there will be plenty of sunshine, with a high of 39.
