After not hearing from Liam Coen for much of Wednesday and Thursday, the Buccaneers received word from their offensive coordinator.
According to multiple reports, he informed the Buccaneers that he would become the Jaguars’ next head coach.
It caps a wild ride, sparked by Jacksonville’s surprise decision to fire general manager Trent Baalke. The move made Coen want the job, underscoring the widely held belief in league circles that several candidates did not want to work with Baalke.
So now, for the second year in a row, Tampa Bay will have to replace an offensive coordinator turned head coach after one season in the position.
And quarterback Baker Mayfield should probably receive a percentage of what Coen and Panthers coach Dave Canales currently make.
