LG’s latest product announcement ahead of CES 2025 continues the big-screen theme that’s already shaping up to be one of the show’s key trends. Only this time, rather than the big images coming from king-sized TVs, they’re coming from impossibly small projectors. In fact, in the case of LG’s new CineBeam S, they come from what LG claims is the smallest ultra short throw 4K projector on the market.
Although it weighs only 2.5 kg and measures just 110 (w) x 160 (d) x 160 (h) mm, the CineBeam S (aka PU615U) is capable of producing images up to 100 inches at a projection distance. by only a few centimeters. Additionally, its RGB laser projection system is claimed to deliver 3,840 x 2,160 resolution images with an impressive brightness of 500 ANSI Lumens and an even more promising contrast ratio of 450,000:1.
The CineBeam S is able to apply these impressive specifications for such a small projector to HDR signals (both HDR10 and HLG formats are supported) as well as SDR, and is claimed to be capable of reproducing 154% of the color space DCI-P3. used in mastering most HDR content.
In addition to being exceptionally small, the CineBeam S enhances its lifestyle appeal by featuring a minimalist metallic finish and features automatic screen adjustment, wall color adjustment and scaling/scaling features. screen offset to make it as easy as possible to install in any room. I want to use it.
It has built-in stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos decoding, so you don’t always need to find an external sound system to use with it on movie nights. In fact, you can watch movies and TV shows without even needing to connect an external source thanks to its intelligent built-in LG WebOS, with its support for all the world’s most popular video streaming services.
However, if you want to use an external source such as a 4K Blu-ray player or gaming console, the projector has an HDMI port and supports wireless playback from Android and iOS devices.
The other new projector announced by LG at CES is the PF600U, which, despite its rather bland name, is actually a pretty unique proposition. LG describes it as “a versatile 3-in-1 lifestyle companion for everyday spaces” – a description it lives up to by combining its basic projector functionality with the ability to also function as a spotlight. LED ambiance and a Bluetooth music speaker.
Its design also reflects its unusual flexibility, with its free-standing style – clearly inspired by floor lamps – making it easy to integrate into virtually any space.
Its stereo speaker setup manages to integrate passive radiators despite the projector’s compact form, helping it deliver richer, rounder and therefore more immersive sound, while the LED mood lamp function is capable of Enhance the ambiance of your room with nine colors and five brightness levels.
The PF600U’s increased focus on versatility means it’s not as well specified for pictures as the CineBeam S. Its LED optical system only supports Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution at instead of 4K, its brightness is rated at 300 ANSI lumens instead of 500, and its contrast ratio is rated at 150,000:1 instead of 450,000:1. However, it still supports HDR10 and HLG playback, and since it’s not a UST model, it’s considered capable of delivering a 120-inch image, which is 20 inches larger than the CineBeam S. Image setup is also simplified. by an automatic screen adjustment feature and the projector’s ability to tilt 110 degrees on its pole mount.
As with the CineBeam S, the PF600U also features LG’s intelligent webOS system, meaning you can again stream movies and TV shows to the projector rather than having to connect an external source. Although like the CineBeam S, the PF600U’s 7.5kg, 290(w) x 290(d) x 983(h)mm form factor features an HDMI port and supports wireless content sharing from devices Android or iOS.
LG hasn’t announced pricing for its two new home entertainment projectors at the time of writing, but if it appears at CES next week, I’ll update this story accordingly.
