Lewis Hamilton wins first podium in 2024, Lando Norris admits ‘I don’t care about pole’ as Max Verstappen wins Spanish Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton scored his first podium of 2024 by finishing third in the Spanish Grand Prix.

It was the seven-time Formula One world champion’s first podium appearance since Mexico last year.

Max Verstappen took first place, ahead of Lando Norris, who started from pole.

Norris dropped to third at the first corner after a bad getaway in Barcelona.

But the McLaren driver adopted a different strategy from his rivals to give himself one last push towards victory on fresher rubber.

However, Norris ran out of steam in his pursuit of Verstappen, with the Dutchman taking his third victory in the last four races to extend his title lead to 69 points.

Hamilton overtook Mercedes teammate George Russell with 14 laps remaining to take the final podium spot.

Norris regretted his escapade on the radio, saying: “I should have won. I messed up the start. The car was incredible. I deserved more.”

Speaking after the checkered flag, Norris said: “I got a bad start. It’s as simple as that. We were the fastest and I lost it at the start.

“A lot of positives this weekend and one negative ruined everything. I have to get there for next time.”

It was also Hamilton’s 198th podium finish in his illustrious career.

He said: “It was a good day and a solid weekend. Like Lando, I got a bad start and lost ground to the Ferraris.

“With a better start, although I’m not sure we could have held on (to Verstappen and Norris), I’m sure we wouldn’t have been so far behind.”
