Lee Zeldin’s campaign says GOP gubernatorial candidate faces anti-Semitic death threat

NEW YORK — US Republican Representative and candidate for New York Governor Lee Zeldin’s campaign has said he was the target of an anti-Semitic death threat.

A swastika was spray painted with the number 187 on a campaign sign from Zeldin to Huntington. The number refers to murder in the California penal code and is often understood as a death threat.

If elected, Zeldin would be New York’s first Jewish Republican governor.

A campaign spokesperson said, “This kind of raw hate should never have a home on Long Island or anywhere else.”
