The lawyer for a Queensland social media influencer accused of torturing his infant daughter to boost her social media profile has called for her to be remanded in custody over fears for her safety.
The 34-year-old woman, who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court today following her arrest in Logan on Thursday.
She was charged with several crimes, including multiple counts of administering poison with intent to harm, and one count each of torture, making children into exploitation material, and fraud.
The woman allegedly gave her daughter medication that was not prescribed for her.
Between August and October last year, the woman allegedly gave her daughter, who was suffering from a health problem, medication that had not been prescribed for her and without medical authorization.
She allegedly poisoned her daughter and recorded her physical and emotional suffering to obtain donations. She is accused of defrauding donors of $60,000 through crowdfunding.

This morning the court heard she intended to apply for bail later this month.
His lawyer Mathew Cuskelly requested that the surveillance video and another recording be disclosed to him before the application is heard.
He requested that his client have access to preventive detention due to the publicity surrounding his arrest.
“I’m concerned about my client’s safety,” he said.

Magistrate Peter Saggers told the court it was an automatic assessment carried out by Correctional Services.
The woman has been remanded in custody and will return to court at the end of January.
