Lawrence Taylor Arrested Again for Alleged Sexual Assault
Lawrence Taylor has been arrested again in Florida for an alleged identical offense he was first charged with three years ago.
Taylor, a Giants legend and one of the greatest players in NFL history, turned himself in to Broward County on Wednesday for failing to report a change of name or residence as a sex offender, TMZ reports.
Taylor, 65, was released early Thursday morning.
Taylor’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, has maintained his client’s innocence.
“My client, Lawrence Taylor, will plead ‘not guilty’ to the recent charges,” Eiglarsh told TMZ.
“As in the previous case involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit a criminal offense. This situation represents a significant misunderstanding. We are confident that once prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence demonstrating Mr. Taylor’s innocence, he will once again obtain a favorable outcome.”
Taylor pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute in 2011 after being accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl.
At the time of the allegations, Taylor said the girl told him she was 19.
In 2021, he was also arrested for failing to notify authorities of a change of address, and his lawyer called the arrest a “confusion.”
The case was resolved when Taylor pleaded not guilty to the residency restriction for persons convicted of certain sex offenses, a lesser charge than the one he faced.
Taylor faced numerous other arrests on drug charges during his post-playing career and was also arrested for drunken driving in 2016.
