Lauren Boebert comes under fire after launching homophobic attack on Pete Buttigieg, claiming he was ‘breastfeeding’ instead of reading her letter

  • Boebert waded into another controversy, this time with ‘Mayor Pete’
  • The nature of the attack involved a reference to “chest feeding”.
  • Boebert and Buttigieg argued over her taking credit for a bridge

Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert was attacked this week for directing a homophobic slur at Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

In response to Buttigieg calling out the Republican for mistakenly taking credit for the Glenwood Springs South Bridge in Colorado, Boebert made a comment about him “chest feeding.”

Buttigieg made history when he became America’s first gay cabinet secretary to open his doors in 2021 — but “chest feeding” is a term used by many trans men and non-binary people to describe feeding their newborns from their chest.

“Mayor Pete, maybe you were breastfeeding and missed my letter, but I personally wrote to you about this in June 2022,” she wrote on X last Wednesday.

She actually wrote a letter to Buttigieg in support of the South Bridge grant. But the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was passed in 2021, a year before his letter.

Additionally, the funding for the South Bridge that Boebert said she got $51.4 million for actually came from a provision of that same infrastructure law, something she voted against because it “wastes hundreds millions of dollars for climate change instead of roads and bridges.

Boebert’s original post alongside Glenwood Springs City Councilman Jonathan Godes and taking credit for the bridge was posted on May 22.

Buttigieg fired back the same day.

“Congresswoman, how do you think your support helped this project? We chose it because it’s a good project and we funded it through President Biden’s infrastructure package, which you voted against,” he wrote on X, quoting his original post.

If Boebert was trying to make a point about the potentially wasteful spending that was part of the infrastructure bill in his response to Buttigieg, it got completely lost in the shuffle with his reference to breastfeeding.

Angry X-users descended on her post to denounce how homophobic she was by making fun of Buttigieg, who has two adopted children with her husband Chasten.

Buttigieg reposted Boebert's statement that he got the $51.4 million for the Glenwood Springs South Bridge, reminding people that she voted against the law that ultimately disbursed that money.

“All parents do skin-to-skin contact when their children are born. It’s normal. This is very important for parents of adopted children. Maybe if you looked after your people they wouldn’t go to jail,” wrote one X user.

This refers to Boebert’s son, Tyler, who was arrested two months ago for theft of property. This month, Boebert declined to attend his son’s hearing, preferring to participate in Trump’s secret trial in New York.

“Let’s talk about breastfeeding with #BoboTheHobo, okay? » wrote one X user, attaching the widely circulated video of Boebert groping his date during a Beetlejuice musical.

In fact, many responses combined political criticism of her with criticism of her saucy escapades at a Denver theater in September 2023, which included her vaping and taking photos during the show.

“Your defense of taking credit for the money you voted against is despicable. Par for the course, Gropert,” one user wrote.

Another wrote: “Keep up with your theater work, bigot. »

Boebert decided to change districts and joined the race to replace incumbent Rep. Ken Buck. She was attacked for being a baggage handler, but she has the largest campaign war chest, $1 million, Colorado News Line reported in April.

The Colorado primary is scheduled for June 25.
