Laura Woods set to return to TV after freak accident left serious facial injuries

Laura Woods is set to return to television after being named ITV’s Euro 2024 panel presenter.

Woods suffered a horrific accident while on vacation with partner Adam Collard, forcing her off duty for TNT Sport’s coverage of Tyson Fury’s fight against Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night.

But it will take more to keep Woodsy out of the game for too long and she will be back in her role at the start of Euro 2024.

ITV named her as one of their presenters alongside a cast of A-list pundits, including Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou in a surprise announcement.

In addition to Woods, Mark Pougatch will act as main presenter with a panel of experts including Ian Wright, Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Karen Carney, Graeme Souness, Eni Aluko, Postecoglou, Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl and arbitration analyst Christina Unkel.

The former talkSPORT star has often worked with ITV during their international competitions and this summer will be no different.

She also covered the Women’s World Cup in 2023 as well as the Men’s World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

Woods joined TNT Sports last summer after repackaging their BT Sport brand, leaving talkSPORT in the process.

She has covered some of the biggest sporting events, including Champions League nights and boxing events, although she was absent on Saturday night as Usyk defeated Fury in a split decision victory.

While on vacation, she accidentally smashed a lampshade over her head, causing serious injuries to her face, body and arms.

She was forced to go to hospital, but has since said she is doing better.

Woods wrote on social media: “I just wanted to explain my absence from television for a little while, to be completely transparent and avoid any speculation.

“I had an accident last weekend at a vacation home. I threw a pillow and hit a large glass lampshade hanging from the ceiling above me, breaking and cutting me face and arms, but luckily I missed my eye.

“I wanted to say a few thanks, firstly to Adam, for being my hero that day, for acting so quickly and for not leaving my side since, and for his family who took care of me at a time when I was petrified.

“To my agents Alex Maguire and Matthew Odonohue at CAA who immediately sought out the best help.

“To Dr. Yannis Alexandrides and his wonderful medical assistant Zuzanna at 111 who opened their emergency practice and came on their days off, they have been so kind and have already made magic that I didn’t think was possible to reduce damage.

“I have added photos since then to show that although it may seem crude, it is already a wonderful improvement and I am very grateful.

“It was quite a shock and I was a bit sad, but I feel very lucky that it wasn’t worse. So a big thank you to my eyebrow too, for having suffered the brunt.

“I’m gutted that I won’t be able to cover the fight in Riyadh tomorrow, but I wish the brilliant TNT boxing team all the best. I’ll be back soon.”

Euro 2024 begins on June 14 when Scotland take on hosts Germany in the opening match.

England begin their Euro campaign against Serbia on June 16 before facing Denmark and Slovenia in their group.
