Laura Caron arrested: Middle Township elementary school teacher accused of having sex and baby with student

MIDDLE TWP., NJ (WPVI) — A Middle Township elementary school teacher in South Jersey is facing charges after allegedly having a child with a student she is accused of sexually assaulting in his home several years ago.

Laura Caron, 34, of the Cape May Courthouse, was arrested Wednesday on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The alleged crimes occurred between 2016 and 2020 at the suspect’s home at the Cape May Courthouse.

Authorities say the victim was 13 and living with Caron, then 28, when their child was born in 2019.

The case came to light when the victim’s father made a social media post in December 2024, saying Caron’s 5-year-old child looked a lot like him and his son, according to investigators.

Authorities say Caron taught the victim and her brother in 5th grade.

Over the years, the victim’s parents said the family became friends with Caron, which eventually led them to sometimes allow their boys and daughter to stay at Caron’s house. The visits began one to two nights a week, but the children stayed with Caron constantly from 2016 to 2020, authorities revealed in court documents.

The victim’s sister, who stayed at Caron’s home at one point, reportedly told police she thought her brother was around 11 when he began sleeping with his teacher in the same bed.

According to the criminal complaint, the sister revealed the children would sleep in a shared bedroom on the second floor, but noticed her brother would be in Caron’s bed the next morning. She also allegedly told police that when her brother was taking a shower, Caron would enter the bathroom and lock the door.

In a text message to his sister, the victim allegedly admitted that he was the father of Caron’s 5-year-old child and asked that it remain a secret.

The victim’s brother, who also resided with Caron, allegedly saw Caron sexually assault his brother once when they thought he was sleeping.

During an interview with the victim, police say she confirmed that she had a sexual relationship with her teacher and that he was the father of her child. The victim reportedly said she was in contact with the teacher until her father made the Facebook post in December.

“When the district was first informed of the allegations, the staff member was immediately placed on paid administrative leave and continues to be on paid administrative leave. Any additional questions should be directed to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office,” said Middle Township School District Superintendent Dr. David. Salvo in a statement to Action News.

Caron is being held behind bars at the Cape May County Correctional Center.

“I personally want to assure Middle Township parents that we are taking every step possible to ensure the safety of our children. Our department is working closely with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure that every aspect of this case is investigated. “a thorough investigation,” Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super said in a statement.
