Police chases in Inglewood and West Hollywood on Wednesday night resulted in crashes, injuries and two deaths.
In Inglewood, a 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were killed when a driver fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers crashed into their vehicle at around 10:35 p.m., according to Officer Franco Pepi, carrier. word of CHP’s West LA. division.
Officers began chasing the blue Dodge pickup after it crossed a red light on Century Boulevard, Pepi said. The driver entered the 405 motorway northbound and ignored officers’ attempts to stop him, later exiting Manchester Avenue and running through the streets of Inglewood.
After turning onto Glasgow Avenue, the driver crashed into a sedan traveling east on Olive Street, trapping the two victims. The driver of the van fled the scene but was quickly captured, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials confirmed that the two sedan victims were to be freed from the wreckage.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man died at a nearby hospital. Their names were not disclosed.
The driver of the van suffered minor injuries and was arraigned on suspicion of multiple charges including hit-and-run, hit-and-run and DUI felony causing the death of another person, said Pepi, adding that officers were also investigating his drug influence after narcotics were found in his truck.
Investigators will remove the video from neighboring businesses on Thursday for further evidence, he said.
Earlier that evening, the driver of a potentially stolen vehicle led Los Angeles Police Department officers on a chase through West Hollywood. The driver struck a car parked near the 7400 block of West Sunset Boulevard at around 9.45 p.m., Constable Lizeth Lomeli said.
The driver and the passengere, who police said were minors, were taken to hospital before being summoned and handed over to their parents. Lomeli would not provide further details on their age or quotes because they are juvenile.
