Eager park visitors began lining up hours before Disneyland’s official opening time of 9 a.m., and a cheer greeted the announcement that the temperature monitoring station would begin processing them for the admission about an hour earlier. To avoid overcrowding in the Main Street area of Disneyland, park workers greeted admitted guests and urged them to roam the grounds freely.
In Disneyland’s 66-year history, the theme park has only been closed a few times for extreme circumstances – after the assassination of President Kennedy and following the Northridge earthquake in 1994, for example. – but before the pandemic hit in March 2020, none of those closures lasted more than a day.
