The McKinney Fire is burning through heavy, drought-stressed timber on steep terrain in the Klamath National Forest west of Yreka, said US Forest Service spokeswoman Caroline Quintanilla.
It promises to be the most dangerous fire this season in California, threatening several communities. The U.S. Forest Service estimated the fire had spread to 51,468 acres by Sunday morning with 0% containment.
