Hours after a South Gate police officer shot a man late Friday afternoon, details surrounding the incident remain scarce.
The shooting was reported around 4:50 p.m. in the 8400 block of San Juan Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating.
An officer shot the man, who was taken to hospital in an unknown condition, said Lt. James Chavez, a shift commander with the South Gate Police Department.
Neither Chavez nor the sheriff’s department had information about what prompted the officer to shoot, whether the suspect was armed or any other details about the shooting or what led up to the encounter.
Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch supervisor Jeremy Stafford said firefighters transported a patient from the scene. He had no information on the condition of the man.
Deputies are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Office at (323) 890-5500.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
