Yu darvishThe beginnings in 2025 could get closer, while the right -handed veteran launched 48 locations on three rounds of a simulated game situation on Thursday at the Padres spring training center. Darvish spent the whole season on the injured list after developing an inflammation of the elbow during the spring camp in mid-March, but despite the long layout, the director of the Padres, Mike Shildt, told AJ Cassavell de MLB.com and other journalists whom he did not believe that Darvish would need a lot of time of rehabilitation before making his return to the alignment of San Diego.
Although no specific calendar has been established, Shildt said that the team may have made Darvish undergo the last stages of the reconstruction of its arm strength while launching major league sleeves, rather than embarking on a long rehabilitation assignment of minor leagues. Assuming that everything is going well with Darvish physically, Shildt said that the club trusted that the know-how of Darvish veterans would allow it to reproduce properly on the fly while launching matches. The paadres would manage Darvish’s workload via round limits and pitch counts, but even a somewhat limited version of Darvish would always be very useful for a next section in charge of the calendar. As Cassavell notes, the Padres have a section of 26 games in 27 days from May 30.
Before such plans can be put in place, of course, Darvish will have to continue to take positive measures in its pitching progression. A certain level of acting activity of minor leagues seems likely because Shildt said that Darvish will have to accumulate up to a limit of 80 throws. Darvish, 38, has already been thrown several enclosure sessions and Thursday, marked the first time since the spring in the spring with which he was confronted.
This is the third consecutive season that Darvish dealt with a certain type of elbow problem. The most serious injuries was a stress reaction Olecranon which ended its 2023 season in August, and the right -hander fought against inflammation in each of the last two years. Darvish also had stays in 2024 due to a neck tension and two groin stumps, and he also missed more time due to an undisclosed family problem.
Given how Darvish launched only 95 1/3 rounds in 2024 between the regular season and the playoffs, it may be a little surprising that (for the moment) the paadres do not provide a rehabilitation stay following his last injury. However, Darvish has obtained most of his training work in the spring before his inflammation of the elbow occurs, and obviously, the paadres will not take any undue risk with the health of Darvish.
It may be revealing that San Diego has kept Darvish just on the list of wounded 15 days since the opening day, because a placement on the 60-day IL would mean that Darvish cannot be activated before the last week of May. Since this could end up being the chronology of Darvish anyway, the brothers could well move Darvish to 60 days for procedural reasons if the team needs an additional place of 40 men. However, Darvish’s continuous stay on the 15 -day IL gives the Padres a certain flexibility by bringing him even earlier than this period of 26 games in 27 days.
The 24-13 Padres have become very well without Darvish to date, but it goes without saying that the rotation will be much stronger with the five-story all-star in the ranks. Michael King And Nick Pivetta were both excellent, but Dylan stops was unusually trembling (despite some strong peripherals), and Randy VasquezThe trembling peripherals undermine its solid MPM of 3.76. Several days off in the past two weeks have allowed the Padres to manage without a fifth appropriate starter for a while, but Stephen Kolek is now aligned to play this role, and he is the programmed starter today against the Rockies.
Building on Darvish to return to a higher shape can ask a lot, since it had only 4.56 MPM in 136 1/3 regular season sleeves in 2024. Its 3.91 walking rate was more solid, even if its 23.6% withdrawal rate was slightly higher than the league and that it allowed much more hard contact than hard pace. An even sharper deposit can also arise suddenly for any launcher as he ages, and Darvish has already tested the father’s time just by making his 38 -year season. That said, the paadres only need Darvish to be a solid medium rotation arm rather than a ace, and it seems quite possible that it can reach or better this status if it can avoid the bug of injuries.
