A West Baltimore man has been arrested and charged after attacking two Asian American women on Sunday with a cement block.
The incident, which was filmed, happened at the Wonderland Liquor Store in the 2000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue before 11 p.m. on May 2.
The store workers were shutting down the store when the suspect attacked them, police said.
In the video, the suspect can be seen wielding a block of cement, which he uses to punch the helpless women.
The women can be seen trying to fight the suspect for about two and a half minutes, first inside the store and then outside the store.
The suspect, identified as Daryl Doles, 50, escaped the scene but was arrested shortly after. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, according to WBFF.
Fortunately, the injuries of the victims were not life threatening.
“They both tried to fight it, but were unfortunately overpowered,” he added. John Yun wrote on a fundraising page.
He identified Korean women as his mother and aunt.
“My aunt had the worst of the attack with over 25 stitches on her head and black eyes. But we’re relieved that both of their CT scans came back fine and were released hours later.
The video shows Yun’s aunt victim of the unprovoked attack first. His mother intervenes and is then targeted.
Yun is puzzled by the attack as they have lived in the community for a long time.
“It doesn’t make sense why they would come here for a living and be treated like that in a community that should embrace them because we’ve been here for over 20 years, we’re part of this community,” he told WJZ.
Yun set up a GoFundMe page to help her mom and aunt pay the bills. As of this writing, he has raised over $ 36,000 of their goal of $ 25,000.
“I admire the bravery and courage of these two women and I am incredibly proud of them. Their physical wounds will eventually heal, but the trauma of this attack will take longer ”. he added.
