A 20-year-old was shot dead at a memorial for a Texas teenager killed after being wrongly identified as the killer, police say.

Norman Christopher Collier IV, 22, is accused of shooting Kolby Graham during a “balloon release” in DeSoto, a suburb of Dallas, according to police. He was charged with capital murder on Friday.

Collier’s younger brother Camran Collier, 19, was fatally shot in his car on April 22, and Graham was “wrongly identified” as the killer in social media posts in the days that followed the shooting, according to police.

After Graham was shot in the head at the memorial on April 25, “none of the participants who witnessed this shooting came to police with information on the identity of the shooter,” police said. .

However, as police continued their investigation, they identified Collier as the suspect, claiming that he “mistakenly believed the internet rumors about the identity of his brother’s murderer” and “took revenge on the wrong man” .

Graham’s mother Tamaka Graham told KTVT that she will never forget her son’s last words.

“He said, ‘Mom, remember I have nothing against anybody – it won’t be me, it will be them.'”

Collier remains in the Dallas County Jail on $ 1 million bail.

“We believe that if this information about Kolby being Camran’s shooter hadn’t been transmitted like this and gone viral on social media, he wouldn’t even be shot,” Cpl. Pete Schulte told KTVT.

DeSoto Police have not announced an arrest following Camran Collier’s death.
