In 2018, newlyweds Paul King And Mindy King paid Property Brothers hosts Jonathan Scott And Drew Scott $192,000 to modernize their home. Following the renovations, the transformation was beautiful on the outside, but the house was rotting from the inside.

Three years after the camera renovation, the Kings filed a lawsuit in Clark County District Court against the show’s production company, Cineflix. The couple took legal action after the Property Brothers allegedly ignored their attempt at contact.

In the filing, Paul and Mindy claimed the show was denied access to do the renovations in Nevada, which would have resulted in hiring construction company Villa Construction.

“Not only did Defendants fail to meet basic contractual requirements owed to Mr. and Mrs. King, but Defendants willfully and intentionally pulled the rug out from under them while blinded by the wool over their eyes – while each of the defendants have profited and continue to profit from their illegal conduct,” the lawsuit states.

According to documents, the King residence was accused of multiple building code violations after its costly renovation. Dangerous cables were reportedly exposed, while sewage seeped into their cabinets. Additionally, their dishwasher was “deemed a biohazard and removed by a hazardous materials company” after using recycled waste disposal water during wash cycles.

According to King’s contract with Cineflix, they are entitled to $5,000 for each day the problems were not fixed after the May 2019 renovation.

“Yes, our house is beautiful when you walk in, because they built a television. But it’s what you can’t see that’s dangerous,” Mindy King said. 8 News now in Las Vegas on May 6, 2024. “Sludge and sewage were leaking out, disintegrating the cabinet,” she said as she opened the cabinets under the sink. “When you’re in a doctor’s office and HGTV is on, I have to go up and ask them to change the channel. We can never watch any HGTV shows.
