Lara Flynn Boyle Makes Rare Comment About Ex Jack Nicholson

She never left.

Lara Flynn Boyle, 54, opened up about her time in Hollywood and rumors she’s quitting the industry in a rare interview with People magazine published Tuesday.

Although she has been on hiatus for four years, she said, “I never wanted to retire. Whenever I felt down or sorry for myself, I made sure not to complain. My mother would sometimes bring me articles about other actresses to show me that I wasn’t the only one being mistreated.”

She also revealed that she had had some #MeToo experiences, but declined to name names.

“I found myself in situations that were unnecessary,” the “Twin Peaks” star revealed.

“I’ve walked out of meetings before and suffered the consequences. We’re all going through this.”

Boyle rose to fame with “Twin Peaks,” before starring in popular films like “Wayne’s World” and “Men in Black II.”

She has been married to Texas real estate developer Donald Ray Thomas since 2006.

“I have a wonderful marriage,” she said. “We were together that night,” she added, referring to their first meeting at a party, “and ever since.”

But before her marriage, she had several high-profile relationships, including with her “Twin Peaks” co-star Kyle MacLachlan, former “Saturday Night Live” actor David Spade and Jack Nicholson, who is 33 years her senior.

“I went off on a limb as far as actors go,” she said, referring to Nicholson, 87.

“Then I thought, ‘Okay, I’m done now.’”

The exes dated on and off for years starting in 1999. In 2015, Spade claimed that Nicholson approached Boyle while she was still with the comedian.

“Nicholson asked Lara Flynn Boyle out in front of me, while we were all smoking a joint somewhere,” he told Details. When he didn’t defend their relationship to Nicholson, “she got upset because I didn’t defend her.”

“I said, ‘I’ve been in this town long enough to know when I’m in over my head. You’re either going to date him or you’re not.'”

Boyle and Nicholson finally broke up in 2004.

She later married Thomas and lived a quieter life away from the spotlight. According to People, she explained that her public absence was due to the COVID-19 pandemic and her choice to prioritize time with her husband.

“Mother, Couch,” which opens July 5, is her first film in four years. The dark comedy follows a woman (Ellen Burstyn) who goes furniture shopping at a store and refuses to get off the couch. Boyle plays Linda, her daughter, while Ewan McGregor and Rhys Ifans (“House of the Dragon”) play Linda’s brothers.

Boyle dismissed the idea that returning for “Mother, Couch” would be a comeback.

“You don’t want an article that says, ‘Boyle’s second chance’ or ‘Look who’s back,'” she said. “I’m right here.”

“Ageism is part of human nature. It’s not Hollywood’s fault. It’s all of our fault,” Boyle said. Getty Images

The film’s writer and director, Niclas Larsson, said he grew up in Sweden reading tabloids in his mother’s hair salon.

“The only type of literature I was exposed to between the ages of 5 and 10 was celebrity magazines,” he said. “And Lara was often on the cover.”

She added that while it is frustrating for actresses of a certain age to find roles, she does not blame the industry for it.

“What makes me angry is when actresses talk about ageism in Hollywood. Ageism is part of human nature,” Boyle says. “It’s not Hollywood’s fault. It’s all of us. Me included. I like looking at pretty people on camera.”
