LAPD officer injured after being ejected from stolen patrol car

A Los Angeles police officer was injured early Sunday morning after a man stole her patrol vehicle while she was inside and was later thrown from the patrol vehicle.

The unnamed officer was working as a security guard at 12th and Figueroa streets around 3:30 a.m. when a man approached his vehicle and managed to get inside, according to the department.

“The suspect left in the police vehicle and at some point the officer was ejected from the vehicle,” according to the department’s incident summary, posted on social media platform X.

The suspect was driving the vehicle north of Figueroa and was involved in a collision before leaving the scene and crashing at 7th and Figueroa streets. Photos from the scene released by KTLA-TV show the police SUV crashed into a pole, its front end badly damaged as an overturned bicycle and scooters lay amid debris on a sidewalk. Police said the suspect got out of the patrol vehicle and tried to run away, but was apprehended.

The officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition. The suspect was evaluated at the scene and “cleared for transport to the station for processing of his arrest,” the department summary states.

A ministry spokesperson said no further information was available.
