Lakers’ LeBron James ‘Very Emotional’ Reflects on Bronny and Bryce’s Journeys

As LeBron James’ eldest son prepares to be selected in the 2024 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers star reflected on his journey raising his sons Bronny and Bryce.

“There is nothing better in the fkn world than being there to raise my boys into MEN! I come here getting very emotional just thinking about your journey so far! Thank you both for allowing me to be your FATHER and be part of your compass through life’s trials and tribulations,” James wrote on Instagram!

Bronny James is expected to be selected in the second round on Thursday, with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns heavily linked to the USC point guard. Bryce James is considered a 3-star recruit in the 2025 high school class by 247Sports and has offers from Duquesne and Ohio State.

Assuming Bronny James is drafted, he will be the first son of an active player on an NBA roster. Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr. are the last father-son duo in professional sports to play at the same time; the baseball stars were teammates on the Seattle Mariners in 1990.

Hockey legend Gordie Howe also played with his sons Mark and Marty for the Hartford Whalers.

Given the timing of the draft, it would make sense for James to feel a sense of complete accomplishment. The Lakers’ recruitment of Bronny would fulfill LeBron’s long-held desire to finish his career playing alongside his son, although agent Rich Paul said that had become less of a priority.

At the very least, we are poised to achieve a momentous accomplishment for the James family.
