Laguna Beach residents fearful after man terrorized neighborhood for over a year

Laguna Beach residents are fearful and frustrated after a man continued to break into area homes for more than a year.

“It’s horrible,” local resident Todd Williams told KTLA’s Mary Beth McDade. “Knowing he’s walking around people’s houses and breaking in.”

Williams lives near Calliope and Catalina streets and said she saw the suspect on her property at all hours of the day. He is now scared after the man eventually broke into his guest house and stole his property.

“He would be there at 8 a.m., he would be there at 6 p.m.,” Williams said. “He’s even here at 5 a.m.”

Williams said his property wasn’t the only one in the neighborhood that was targeted. The suspect allegedly targeted other homes and is accused of sleeping in a resident’s vehicle.

The suspect was confronted by Williams and others living in the area, but they said he would just yell and talk back at them.

Williams identifies the suspect as Daniel Moretti. He said he and his neighbors called the police several times, but it was frustrating that Moretti appeared to be released shortly after his arrest.

Williams said law enforcement was always present when called, but officers told him their hands were tied when it came to punishing the suspect.

“I find it so discouraging,” Williams said. “He gets arrested and literally finds himself back on the street the next day. »

Some neighbors filed restraining orders against Moretti, but Williams said the suspect did not obey them.

He hopes something will be done soon to keep Moretti away from their home before the next incident becomes potentially dangerous.
