Cherundolo was appointed successor to Bob Bradley in January 2022, leading the Black & Gold to double the shield of this year MLS Cup supporters. He also won the title of the US Open Cup 2024 and reached the Champions CONCACAF 2023 Champions Cup final.
The native of San Diego has a record of 87W-43L-26D with Lafc in all competitions and has reached six finals.
“It is an honor to be the LAFC head coach,” said Cherundolo via a press release. “After a lot of reflection and discussion with my family, we decided that at the end of this year, we will return to Germany. I love Los Angeles and Lafc, but this decision is in the best interest of my family, even if it will finally move us away from a team, a city, an organization and a base of fans that I am proud to represent.
“I can’t wait to continue our work with the players, coaches and staff to make the 2025 season a success while we continue to fight to win trophies.”
