La Liga president Javier Tebas tweeted reports showing goal-line technology can make mistakes after Barcelona’s goal against Real Madrid was wrongly disallowed.

La Liga was criticized during Sunday’s Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid for not having goal-line technology and president Javier Tebas hit back.

The clash at the Bernabeu was tied at 1-1 when Lamine Yamal thought he had given the Catalans the lead with a corner kick.

His effort appeared to have beaten goalkeeper Andriy Lunin before he managed to keep it clear of goal.

However, the referee waved play on and the VAR could not confirm whether he had actually crossed the line.

Leagues such as the Premier League now have the technology to triage such incidents within seconds, with officials receiving a signal on their watch telling them whether it is a goal or not.

Yet such technology does not exist in Spain’s top flight, with El Larguero reporting that La Liga president Javier Tebas does not want to pay the “£2.6million” it costs.

Fans couldn’t believe Yamal’s strike wasn’t a goal, but Tebas was quick to defend his league’s lack of technology.

The La Liga president has published a series of articles on times when goal-line technology has made mistakes.
