Kyren Lacy jailed on charges related to fatal car crash

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, accused of causing a crash that killed a 78-year-old man on Dec. 17, then fleeing the scene without rendering aid or calling authorities, has surrendered to authorities Sunday evening, was imprisoned and then released. on $151,000 bail, police records show.

Lafourche Parish (Louisiana) Sheriff’s Office records indicate Lacy was charged with negligent homicide, hit-and-run resulting in death and reckless operation of a vehicle.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Lacy and police said Friday they had been in contact with Lacy and his attorney about surrender.

According to a press release from Louisiana State Police on Friday, Lacy allegedly drove a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 and “recklessly passed several vehicles at a high rate of speed while crossing the center line and entering the the northbound lane while he was in an undesignated area.” -overtaking zone.”

“As Lacy illegally passed other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck braked abruptly and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge,” a state news release said. Louisiana State Police.

“Behind the pickup truck was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved to the left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.

Police alleged Lacy, 24, drove around the scene of the crash and fled “without stopping to render aid, call emergency services or report his involvement in the crash.” .

Herman Hall, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, who was a passenger in the Kia Sorento, later died from his injuries sustained in the crash, according to state police. Hall was 78 years old.

The drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento were also slightly injured, according to police.

Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, said in a statement that his client was “fully cooperating with authorities.”

Lacy played two seasons at Louisiana before transferring to LSU in 2022. Last season, he had 58 catches for 866 yards with nine touchdowns and declared for the NFL draft on December 19, two days after the accident.
