Alexia Umansky learned that her mother Kyle Richards and father Mauricio Umansky were separating after accidentally seeing him on the news.
Appearing on the “Scrubbing In with Becca Tilley & Tanya Rad” podcast Thursday, the “Buying Beverly Hills” star opened up about the moment she found out her parents were taking a break from their 27-year marriage.
“We found out about it through (an) article,” Alexia revealed. “The news of my parents’ separation broke before we even discussed it internally as a family. »
“And then the ‘Buying Beverly Hills’ cameras came the very next day,” she added.
The 27-year-old said her family usually sweeps rumors and reports under the rug, but this time it was different.
“We just had a moment, we were like, ‘We need to start talking,'” she recalls. “And the cameras were going to be there anyway, so we leaned in. And it was July. So a lot has changed since then. But now we’ve talked about everything.
The family’s conversations about Richards and Umansky’s separation play out in the second season of Netflix’s “Buying Beverly Hills.”
“What was filmed were two of the four big conversations we had as a family,” she explained. “We had a conversation when the news broke, but my sister Farrah wasn’t there.”
“So the next day when the cameras came, Farrah came over and that was the first full conversation we had as a family,” Alexia continued. “So it was as real as possible, as honest and open as possible, which is so crazy.”
“That was the first conversation with my sisters and just my dad, we were like we need to do this more. We feel extraordinary,” she added. “We’re learning things from TMZ and it doesn’t seem right.”
Page Six confirmed in July 2023 that Richards and Umansky, who married in January 1996, had decided to separate after 27 years of marriage.
The couple admitted to having a “difficult” year in a joint statement on Instagram: “We love and respect each other enormously. … There was no wrongdoing on anyone’s part.
Shortly after announcing their separation, Richards and Umansky released a joint statement clarifying that all reports of their “divorce are false.”
In addition to Alexia, the fan-favorite couple share daughters Sophia, 24, and Portia, 16.
Umansky also helped raise Farrah Brittany, 35, whom Richards, 55, took in during her first marriage to Guraish Aldjufrie.
