Kroger Merger Update: 35 Illinois Mariano’s and Jewel Osco Stores to Be Sold if Kroger-Albertson Merger Goes Ahead | Full List

CHICAGO (WLS) — Kroger and Albertson have released a full list of all the stores they would sell if their merger is approved, which includes 35 Mariano’s and Jewel Osco stores in Illinois.

The two grocery chains agreed in September 2023 to sell more than 400 stores and other assets for about $1.9 billion to pave the way for approval of the merger, which would unite two of the nation’s largest grocery chains.

Supermarket chains say they need to merge to compete with Walmart, Amazon and other big companies that have jumped into the grocery business. There’s been significant consolidation across the grocery industry as companies struggle with rising prices for everything from food to workers.
