This could easily be mistaken for a plot taken directly from Sex and the city: Kristin Davis’ character Charlotte lends a man $5,000 only to be ghosted by him.
But it really happened, Davis revealed on his new podcast, Are you a Charlotte?where she and guest Sarah Wynter, who appeared in the series pilot, discussed the concept of someone abruptly disappearing from your life.
“I once dated this unemployed actor. I think it was before Sex and the citymaybe between (Melrose Place) And Sex and the cityor maybe when I was on Melrose. I don’t know. He’s very successful now,” said Davis, who played Brooke on the Aaron Spelling drama series from 1995 to 1996. “He was very talented, but at the time I had money because I was working and I was at his house. and he had all this, like “your power is going to be cut off”, like all those notices you get when… you can’t pay your bills. They were all everywhere in his house, weren’t they? And I was like, uh, you know, what’s going on? And then, I think, he wrecked his motorcycle, which is similar to how he used to get around town for his auditions. And I was like, “Can I lend you some money?”
Davis now knows that decision was a “horrible mistake.”
She warned that anyone listening should not lend money to anyone they are dating.
“Don’t do it,” Davis advised. “This doesn’t end well.”
In his case, it wasn’t immediate, but it still happened.

“It changed the dynamic in a horrible way, and it was kind of a casual thing, right?” she said. “But I probably should have known better. See what I’m saying? But I just felt like: I can help, I should help this guy. He is so talented – what it is. I lend him money. I think it was $5,000 total. So I lent him that money and then, you know, he stopped calling. So I’m like, ‘What the fuck?'”
Although Davis tried to confront him, things did not go as planned.
“I remember going to his apartment and knocking on the door,” she said. “And his dog was in there, and I loved his dog, and I could hear his dog. But I was like, ‘Is he in there and pretending he’s not there? -inside ?'”
The mystery man then called Davis to ask if she was the one knocking on his door.
“And I was like, ‘Well, yeah,’” Davis recalled. “I felt so embarrassed, like I was a mess.”
Wynter reassured her that she had every right to want her money back. She said Davis should get it back now with interest.
“I would just love some recognition or whatever, which is kind of a fantasy,” Davis said.
When Wynter suggested that Davis show up at his house again, the Couples retreat the star said no.
“He lives in the country with kids, so I don’t think I want to run there,” she said.
Davis’ Charlotte, along with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), are expected to return later this year for the third season of And just like that. In the meantime, new episodes of his podcast are available every week.
