The cause of death of Karen Houghton, Kris Jenner’s sister, has been revealed almost a month after she passed away at the age of 65.
According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ, Houghton’s official cause of death was cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac arrhythmia with type 2 diabetes listed as a secondary underlying cause.
The documents also state that Houghton had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was cremated following her March 19 death.
Jenner, 68, announced her sister’s “unexpected” death on Instagram last month.
“It is with the heaviest heart and deepest sadness that I share that my sister Karen passed away unexpectedly yesterday,” she captioned a carousel of photos of Houghton with her and other loved ones.
The “Kardashians” star said her “heart hurts” for her mother, Mary Jo Campbell, and Houghton’s daughter, Natalie.
“Karen was beautiful inside and out,” Jenner added. “She was the sweetest, the kindest, the most sensitive and the most vulnerable and so funny. She always felt grateful and grateful for her life and cherished her family and friends and especially her beautiful daughter.
The mum-of-six said she cherished “every memory” they had together.
“Karen’s passing reminds us that life is so short and precious and that tomorrow is never promised. We must tell those we cherish how much we love them. I love you my beautiful sister,” she concluded.
Jenner’s daughter Kim Kardashian paid tribute to her late aunt on social media following her death.
“🕊️I love you so much Aunt Karen🕊️,” the Skims founder, 43, captioned a series of throwback photos on March 21.
Although little is known about Jenner and Houghton’s relationship, it appears that they separated at some point.

In April 2014, Houghton reportedly asked her Facebook friends to “pray” for her “crazy” older sister because “she needs it.”
“She’s like (sic) crazy. She doesn’t need prayers, she needs sky vodka hahaha hahaha hahaha,” the mother of one added, according to RadarOnline.
Houghton also told the outlet that Jenner would not return his phone calls.
“And it hurts me. I don’t care how much money you have or who you are, you are my sister. I’m not afraid of her. …I can’t reach it anymore. But I guess it’s the money,” she said.
It is unclear whether the siblings improved their relationship before Houghton’s death.
The sisters were last seen posing with other relatives at Christmas 2019.
