Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Tuesday the candidate of the BJP of Basirhat Rekha Patra, one of the victims of sexual assault who would have been perpetrated by the head of the TMC, now suspended, Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali.

Bharatiya Janata’s party on Sunday published its fifth list of candidates for the next Lok Sabha surveys, announcing the candidacy of Patra de Basirhat.

The Prime Minister praised Patra for saying that she would fight for justice, even for those who opposed.

He told her about his campaign preparations and his support among people for the BJP.

Prime Minister Modi also expressed confidence in Patra’s victory in the constituency, appealing “Shakti Swaroopa”.

In particular, Modi had also met Patra during one of his gatherings in Western Bengal during the thickness of the violence of Sandeshkhali.

Who is Rekha Patra?

Patra, a resident of Patra Para in Sandeshkhali, was one of the vocal demonstrators who exhibited Sheikh Shahjahan and her aid on sexual assault and land grab.

She had written a complaint against the two confidants of Sheikh Shahjahan, Shibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar, which led to their arrest in February.

Described as the face of the demonstrations of Sandeshkhali, Patra was allegedly threatened by local stakeholders as well as by the police for having raised his voice against the culprits.
