A knife-wielding madman stabbed several people, including a police officer, at an anti-Islamist political rally in Germany on Friday, in a frenzied attack that was filmed live on YouTube.
Bloody chaos broke out in the middle of a Mannheim city square shortly after 11:30 a.m. local time as members of the right-wing campaign group, the Pax Europa Citizens’ Movement (BPE), filmed a protest, according to the media outlet. Bild. reported.
The stomach-churning livestream showed the moment chaos erupted when the bearded knifeman abruptly tackled one of the victims – believed to be the group’s leader, Michael Stürzenberger – to the ground and began violently thrusting a knife into him. large blade.
Screaming onlookers rushed to try to pull the attacker away, but he broke free and continued to brandish the knife at the original victim.
As the attack intensified, the man with the knife began savagely stabbing people nearby and, at one point, plunged the blade into the back of a police officer.
The criminal was eventually shot and killed by cops, the graphic video shows.
The number of people injured, nor the extent of their injuries, was not immediately clear.
The condition of the attacker was also not known.
The livestream, broadcast on the BPE YouTube page, showed paramedics frantically providing first aid to victims following the attack.
Mannheim police confirmed there had been a “major police operation” at the square, but did not provide further details.
“A firearm was used against the attacker,” police said in a brief statement.
A rescue helicopter was also dispatched and tram traffic in the area was suspended.
