Knife-wielding maniac punches NYPD cops, breaks window of police car

A knife-wielding maniac with a long criminal record punched two NYPD officers after smashing the window of their squad car Tuesday in the Bronx, law enforcement sources said.

Patrick Young, 34, allegedly ran toward a patrol car with two officers sitting inside while holding a large knife around 5 p.m. outside the Brothers Police and Security store on Webster Avenue in Bedford Park.

Young dropped his knife, then became angry – he allegedly punched the driver’s side window several times and shattered it.

The cops got out of their car to confront Young, but he punched them both as they tried to handcuff him, sources said.

Police eventually pulled out a Taser and ordered Young to the ground, leading to his arrest, the sources added.

Young – who has been arrested more than 20 times before – was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for a psychological evaluation and cuts to his hand.

Young, of the Bronx, was charged with assault and criminal mischief.

One of his recent arrests involved armed threats, police sources said.

The two officers, meanwhile, were treated for bruises and scrapes at North Central Hospital, sources said.
