The Knicks did not have to rely on Jalen Brunson because the star version of Og Anunoby resumed on Sunday.
Anunoby lost 32 points on ridiculous efficiency – 13 of the 17 shots on the field – pursuing the best section of his career in a 112-98 victory against the Suns.
He scored at least 20 points in 10 consecutive games for the first time.
“I don’t think I’m in an area,” said Anunoby. “I think I’m still able.”
There were questions about the question of whether Anunoby would take a step back, Brunson returning from a one -month injury.
It was a natural concern since Brunson is so dominant with a ball and the rate of use of Anunoby drops with the leader on the ground.
Coach Tom Thibodeau has rejected this premise strongly.
“This notion is a lot of garbage. … It is everywhere on the ground. This is how it scores,” said Thibodeau after Saturday’s victory in Atlanta. “This is how everyone is. … It’s a bunch of apologies and that’s how I see it.”
Anunoby followed with a diversified attacking game, including a 360 -degree jam in the last minute. He has been the best player in Knicks for a month.
On Sunday, he was responsible for keeping the best Phoenix player – Devin Booker, who exploded for 40 points – while leading the offensive.
“He has played incredible for the past two weeks. All season, but he really intensified recently and he does just what he does. This is what we expect from him,” said Brunson. “Everyone knew what he could do in a defensive way. Offensively, I think he took a step forward as he played. He always had that and I think he presented it.”
Brunson was not the only Knick to return from a long absence on Sunday.
Miles McBride also played against the Suns after missing eight games because of a problem with the groin, marking the first time that the 24 -year -old appeared in more than two weeks.
He scored eight points in 16 minutes on the bench, then explained what kept his return.
“Obviously, if you look at me, I am explosive at the two ends of the ball. I really wanted to make sure that I was comfortable and that I was cutting and being explosive,” said McBride.
McBride played his usual role as the first guard outside the bench and as part of the first Knicks team with a practically complete force in more than a month.
Mitchell Robinson, who rested in the victory on Saturday against the Hawks, Cam Payne, who was listed as probable before the Tip on Sunday due to an ankle sprain, and the cities of Karl-Anthony, who are dealing with finger and knee ailments, were also active.
The only injured and inactive Knick player was the recruit Ariel Hukporti, who finished for the season after having undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
“It was good to have everyone again,” said Thibodeau.
With the knicks on the verge of locking the third seeded (they need a victory or a loss of pacers), Thibodeau said that he will not change the approach – that is to say, start to rest the players – once the position is dropped.
“We don’t jump anything. And this is the approach we have adopted all season,” said Thibodeau. “We are not going to change now, so we think it will help you prepare what’s going on.”
