Karl-Anthony Towns may have angered some embittered New York sports fans a little Wednesday night.
The Knicks superstar wore a green Eagles sweater with a retro logo while sitting on the bench during New York’s game against the rivals 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center.
Towns, a native of Edison, New Jersey, has made it clear in the past that he has no problem supporting the Eagles, regardless of which NBA team he plays for.
While with the Timberwolves in 2018, he posted on social media his support for the Eagles – who had beaten the Vikings in the NFC title game en route to their first-ever Super Bowl victory.
Towns, a self-described “born and raised” Eagles fan, was called out for his comments, but told reporters that the criticism didn’t bother him and that he preferred to stay true to himself.
Truly, it’s being an Eagles fan.
“I have to be myself,” Towns told reporters in January. “I’ve been an Eagles fan since I was young. I will always remain loyal to my team. No matter what happened in that match, I had it both ways. I was going to have huge support for the Vikings if they won, I was obviously going to have support for the Eagles if they won. It was a win-win for me.
Even though he kept his ground truth — as he sat with a bone chip and a sprained thumb — on Wednesday, that didn’t mean some Knicks fans weren’t angry and perplexed facing the decision.
“I can’t believe KAT is in that eagles spot on the bench. He should be fined,” one fan wrote on X.
“No way KAT has an Eagles sweater on the Knicks bench smh,” wrote another.
“KAT, why the hell are you wearing an Eagles jacket when we play in Philly,” demanded one angry fan.
On the show, however, Jalen Brunson – also a known Eagles fan – said during an in-game interview that he was on board with the Eagles’ products, saying he “absolutely” co -signed the movement.
Due to his two injuries, Towns missed Wednesday night’s game, but is expected to play, The Post reported.
