Klopp pictured back in Dortmund training as he returns to management for gala match

Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp has been pictured wearing the famous black and yellow colours of his former team Borussia Dortmund for the first time since leaving the German side in 2015.

The German coach is set to return to the bench for the first time since leaving the Reds earlier this summer when he takes up a new role at Borussia Dortmund.

The 57-year-old will lead one of the teams in a farewell match for two of his former players, Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski.

Klopp will lead Blaszczykowski’s side for the tribute match.

Ahead of this weekend’s game, Klopp was spotted taking part in a training session involving the Dortmund players, bringing his assistant Peter Krawietz along for the meeting.

The German appeared in good spirits throughout the session and was pictured chatting to former midfielder Nuri Sahin, who is now head coach of the German Giants.

Klopp, who had hinted he was considering stepping back from management altogether after his nine-year reign on Merseyside, was lured into the temporary role by his two former players.

Piszczek and Blaszczykowski have both played a major role in Klopp’s success at the German club and were part of Klopp’s Bundesliga-winning sides in 2011 and 2012.

They also played a significant role in helping Klopp’s men reach the 2013 Champions League, where they were knocked out by rivals Bayern Munich.

And when it came to creating the greatest testimonial of all time, they had only one manager in mind to take charge of the game and be present on the bench.

So they contacted Klopp and asked him if he wanted to be part of this exciting match.

Dortmund shared a video on social media to confirm Klopp’s participation as manager for the match.

In a light-hearted video, Piszczek told Blaszczykowski: “We need a coach and I have an idea, we will call the retired coach.”

Klopp then entered the frame wearing sunglasses, saying: “You finally had your farewell game. Oh my God. And you want to train before the game. Are you stupid?”

Speaking about his involvement in the game, Klopp and the team he should manage, Klopp said: “I don’t care at all (about the team I manage).

“I don’t worry about it at all. I do what I used to do, I start thinking about it five minutes in advance.

“Is the game sold out? I’d buy a ticket if I wasn’t coming anyway!”
