Kirk Cousins clearly indicated that he will not be happy to take a rear seat in Michael Penix in the quarter of Falcons.
Cousins will be 37 years old this summer and “clearly communicated” in Atlanta that he wants to spend his remaining NFL years as a starter. Cousins is ready to give up his non-exchange clause to find a place to get there and, lucky for him, the Falcons are on the same wavelength.
“This is not one thing where we remember (cousins) if the opportunity (for a business) arises,” said Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, at the NFL annual meeting on Tuesday, according to ProfootballTalk. “If it’s something that is good for the two of us – it’s good for Falcons and Kirk cousins - we would certainly like to see it happen.”
Cousins was brought on board to Atlanta to a huge contract of $ 180 million over four years a year ago, just before the Falcons rescued from Penix with the overall choice n ° 8.
Penix started the year as a backup of cousins until week 15, when the recruit took over, and now the second-year QB has reins before the 2025-26 season.
“We invested in Kirk last year,” said Morris. “We have invested in a major way, and at the moment we feel very strong about his quarter aid and the things he can do for us.”
It does not seem that the cousins appear to work and will happily accept this role, however.
“I’m not going to be stupid to think that he will present himself for volunteering right now,” said Morris. “We are dealing with a commercial type mode at the moment. I don’t think he will be there. If it is, we will welcome him with open arms. But I’m not going to be silly enough to make myself work and angry with Kirk cousins lacking voluntary training. ”
Voluntary workouts are only that.
We do not know if the cousins will be on the list when the compulsory practices begin, but if it is, it is at this moment that the pot could stir and that commercial talks could accelerate.
“I know he would like to try to be a starter at some point,” said Morris. “It was clearly communicated with me and whoever he had the opportunity to speak … The path on this subject, I am not sure, but we will have to understand these things and we will have to get to this process.”
