Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Grows to Over $125 Million Global Bow

EXCLUSIVE: 20th Century Studios/Disney Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is beating its chest toward a $125 million worldwide bow this weekend. At the international box office, we understand that Wes Ball’s payout stands at around $31 million through Friday. As Anthony reported, the domestic market is looking at a $52-$55 million start for the full frame.

Overseas, we’re looking at $70 million with upside potential. The obstacle here is China, as we noted in our overview. Even if Monkeys will come in first place for the frame there, it’s a quiet market coming off a big holiday weekend last session. This includes a working day on Saturday. Maoyan (9.1) and TPP (9.2) scores are good, but Douban’s review score is not so hot at 6.7, which is the lowest in the recent series. Estimates for the market startup, which is no longer reliable, are around $11 million.

Looking at foreign compositions and exchange rates today, 2011 Rise of the Planet of the Apes bowed to $62 million internationally ($8 million came from China). In 2014, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes made $127 million ($37 million in China) and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes came in at a $130 million launch ($56 million from China).

So, given the projections we hear, Kingdom would land in the upper or middle portion of this pack.

We understand that there have been positive starts in Latin America, France, the Netherlands and other parts of Europe – where, it should be noted, the weather is now summery in some areas. Elsewhere, the results are mixed.

The top 5 foreign markets through Friday are: France ($4.8 million), China ($3 million), Mexico ($2.4 million), United Kingdom ($2 million). dollars) and Germany ($1.3 million).

Not included in the above are Saturday’s figures from China and Korea, which bring those amounts to $6.7 million and $2.1 million, respectively.

We will have a full report tomorrow.
