King Charles III sent his condolences to the people of Myanmar after the deadly earthquake on Friday.
In a message on social networks, King Charles spoke of the shock and sadness that he and the queen felt the earthquake, which killed more than 1,600 people.
He sent their “deepest possible sympathy” to those who had lost relatives, houses or livelihoods.
The king is supposed to stay in his Highgrove field after spending time in hospital earlier this week due to the side effects of his cancer treatment.
The 7.7 coarse earthquake killed hundreds of the epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar. Its powerful effects could feel felt hundreds of kilometers in the Thai capital Bangkok, as well as in China and India.
It was reported of generalized devastation in the Saigaing region and Mandalay, where the buildings were flattened and the temple arrows overthrown. Myanmar officials say that more than 1,600 have died so far, with 2,376 injured.
The UK Foreign Office said that it would send 10 million pounds of humanitarian aid to myanmar to support the response “in the hardest affected areas of the earthquake”.
Charles wrote: “My wife and I were very terribly shocked and saddened to learn the devastating earthquake in the Myanmar, with his tragic loss of life and his appalling damage to houses, buildings and means of subsistence, without mentioning the destruction of sacred pagodas, monasteries and other places of worship.
“I know that the people of Myanmar continue to endure so many difficulties and tragedy in your life, and I have long admired your resilience and your extraordinary mind.”
He added: “With regard to the most difficult and most heartbreaking times, my wife and I send our deepest possible sympathy to all those who have undergone the deep tragedy of losing their loved ones, their houses and their precious means of subsistence.”
The King, 76, canceled a trip to Birmingham on medical advice on Friday on Friday, said Buckingham Palace. He had spent a little time in the hospital the day before.
Friday morning, he left Clarence House, his London residence to go to his Gloucestershire field.
Its cancer diagnosis was announced in February 2024. The palace did not say what type of cancer it has, or what were the recent side effects.
