Los Angeles – Angel City defender Savy King collapsed on the ground and medical staff seemed to make thoracic compressions on her before she was conducted during a 2-0 victory against UTAH Friday evening at the BMO Stadium.
Angel’s first city assistant coach Eleri Earnshaw, who filled the acting coach Sam Briny, told journalists after the match that King, 20, had been transported to a local hospital, evaluated and was reactive.
“Her family is with her, just like our medical staff, so they are in good hands,” said Earnshaw.
The two sidelines were cleared and gathered around medical staff while King was treated and the NWSL teams with the League office offered support to King via their social networks.
The night of the superheroes, Christen Press came out of the bench, unrolled his course and saved Angel City, but the goal and the victory took a distant rear seat in the frightening situation of King.
Press, who entered the match in the 65th minute, scored 25 seconds after taking the field to give Angel City (4-2-2, 14 points).
Press, descending the left wing, made a cut inside, losing the Madison Pugarch defender and wrapped a left foot on the tense arm of goalkeeper Amanda McGlynn in the upper left corner of the goal. The objective was the first in the press since its return last season because of four injuries by the LCA.
The excitement of the press goal left the stadium in the 74th minute when King fell and was quickly administered by the training staff. After a long time, King was finally put on the stretcher and transported.
Video review has shown that King launched a bullet far from an Utah striker, then sat on the lawn and relaxed. The two teams joined a prayer circle after the match for King.
The game was restarted after a real -time break of almost 15 minutes.
King, who is from Agoura High, joined Angel City in a business with Bay FC during the offseason. This is his second season in the NWSL. She quickly moved to the central point, alongside Sarah Gorden this season.
“It was one of the Utah players who suggested it (post-match prayer circle) that we meet,” said Earnshaw. “Some people prayed, some people shared their energy. Just to show unity at that time to support Savy, without knowing the update at that time, it was obviously a frightening situation to be inside and at that time, it’s much bigger than football.”
Angel City put the match halfway back from 12 minutes on the goal of Alyssa Thompson, putting Utah (1-6-1, four points) his sixth defeat in the last seven games.
The laity were unavailable after receiving a red card at the end of the victory last Friday against the Washington Spirit and had to serve a suspension of a match.
The match was the first for Angel City since April 18 and the first after a difficult section of three games against some of the best teams in the League (Gotham FC, Orlando and Washington). Angel City lost two of the three, but left with precious lessons in the process.
The victory is the second row for Angel City and its first laundering of the season which hides the club in third place, but with two days of week 7 to play.
Angel City returns to action next Saturday in northern California against its rival Bay FC.
