King Charles will ride in a carriage at Trooping the Color

Earlier this month, following the announcement that the British royal family had postponed most of their appearances until July 4 due to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s call for a special general election, many wondered whether the annual Trooping the Color ceremony would be among the canceled engagements. Now that it has been confirmed that the event will indeed take place, many have another question on their minds: will King Charles III be present during his cancer treatment?

Wonder no more, because it has been confirmed that Charles will indeed be there, although he will make his appearance a little differently this time around. Instead of riding a horse as he did in previous years, the monarch, now 75, will sit in a carriage alongside his wife, Queen Camilla.

At last year’s event, Charles rode on horseback, alongside Prince William, Prince Edward and Princess Anne, while the rest of the royal family arrived in a horse-drawn carriage. Queen Elizabeth II also made the switch from horses to carriages in 1987, at the age of 60.

Trooping the Color, scheduled for June 15, will celebrate Charles’ birthday — although he was technically born on November 14, 1948 — as well as the British ruler’s official birthday, according to the royal family’s website. The ceremony will conclude with a Royal Air Force flypast, which the royal family will watch from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

The jury is still out on whether Princess Kate, who is facing her own cancer diagnosis, will face the event in her first royal appearance in 2024. Although that seems unlikely, with the palace having confirmed that she would not be at the event. the traditional Colonel’s Review on June 8, which serves as a rehearsal for the main event. Lieutenant General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE, former Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, will replace his usual role as Inspection Officer.
