King Charles delivered a speech to the two chambers of the Italian Parliament – the first time that a British monarch said such an address.
A group played an interpretation of the Italian national anthem while the king entered the Chamber of Deputies, where a crowd of hundreds of parliamentarians had gathered to hear him speak.
The king started the day by meeting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, receiving a red ceremonial carpet at Villa Doria Pamphili, on the outskirts of Rome.
The King and the Queen are the third day of their state visit to Italy – and the Queen had a taste of local cuisine when she received a box of delivery style pizza during the visit of a local state school.

The king and meloni seemed to have an animated conversation, with the politician a current English speaker, while they were walking in the gardens of the XVIIth century palace.
A military group on horseback aligned itself in front of the palace to greet the king, on the context of the Villa des Oranges and views extending to St Peter’s and the Vatican.


Later Wednesday, the king became the first British monarch to give a speech to the two chambers of the Italian parliament.
Part of the speech should be pronounced in Italian.
The royal couple will then spend the evening of their wedding anniversary at a state banquet at the Palais de Quirinale, an event likely to be a showcase for local cuisine and for a list of celebrities and dignitaries guests.
The king and the queen received a warm reception during their trip to Italy, posing for photos on Tuesday as they met crowds outside the Colosseum, near the old site of the Temple of Venus.
There were calls from “Carlo” – Italian for Charles – of the crowd waiting to see the royal visitors and the local media also seemed interested in their car, the Bentley of Claret Colored State.
Back home at the Buckingham Palace, there was a musical tribute to mark the wedding anniversary of the royal couple.
