King Charles deeply “regrets” this part of the Princess Diana relationship

King Charles and Queen Camilla will celebrate 20 years of wedding this week, but at some point – we forget – they exercised an extramarital affair when the two were still married to other people.

Charles was married, of course, to Princess Diana; Camilla was married to Andrew Parker Bowles. The two marriages dissolved in the mid -1990s, and Charles and Camilla finally married April 9, 2005, two decades ago this week. Rebecca English The Daily Mail spoke to Friends of Charles and Camilla, and the Englishman wrote that, from Diana, “Charles still” regrets “the pain and the sadness caused” at the end of the Princess of Wales, who died on August 31, 1997 at only 36 years old.

“The two (Charles and Diana) behaved badly in this first marriage and made decisions that none of us could never tolerate,” said a source speaking to English. “But we can try to try to understand them.”

Diana, for her part, said in 1995 in her 1995 Panorama Interview with Martin Bashir that there were three people in his wedding, so it was a bit crowded. Charles and Camilla met years before Charles and Diana did it; Camilla has always been “the one” for the future king, and his heart was broken when she married Parker Bowles in 1973. Even after Camilla’s first wedding, she remained close to Charles – even attending her wedding in 1981 with Diana.

“I don’t think (Camilla) was never going to (moving away),” said a friend to English. “She was attached to him.”

A friend added to Charles’s English: “When you look at it now, ask someone to sacrifice … The happiness for the good of their public character seems really cruel.”

Before their wedding day, Camilla chose to use the title of Duchess of Cornwall secondary rather than the title of Princess of Wales – which, technically, was after having married the Prince of Wales, that Charles was at the time. (Camilla probably thought that there would be too many backlash that surrounds him using the title so closely associated with Diana; after all, Camilla was Diana’s rival for so long in pursuit of Charles’ heart, so leaving the title of princess of Wales in memory seemed right.)

In the head of their wedding, Camilla “was an absolute bag of nerves,” said a friend. “She was so terrified that she couldn’t eat and felt sick … In fact, she was actually sick, with sinus problems.” (It’s true – Camilla was very under the weather on their wedding day.) The day of their wedding, Camilla would have “trembled so much that she had lost her place in the service order during the ceremony, and (Charles) had to touch her hand to reassure her,” said a source.

In the end, with regard to Charles and Camilla, their love resisted the test of time. One source told English that “people finally recognized, at the center of all this, two people who loved each other.”

This does not mean that the wedding was perfect. “Like any of us, they will disagree. Strongly,” said a friend. “They both have their different opinions. And they will have a very good argument. ” A continuous source of tension? How much the king even works in the midst of his treatment against cancer and his brief hospitalization on March 27.

“The main problem is that she cannot persuade him to take time,” said a friend about Camilla, who is the person Charles listens to most of them. “She is obviously worried about him and his treatment. With the exception of the first two months, he has worked fairly well every day since.”

Following a routine procedure for enlarged benign hypertrophy, cancer was detected, which was announced worldwide on February 5 of last year. Although Charles took a public break until the end of April, he continued to work at home and rarely stopped since.

“I would say, in terms of arguments, (King’s health) is absolutely the top of what they do not agree,” a friend in English told. “She thinks, as we all do, that he does too much, hates drop people. But I don’t hope for her own health.”

“It was such a tension,” added the friend. “It was worrying for them as a couple. You don’t know with cancer, right? ”

In the end, Camilla fell quite sick herself with pneumonia at the end of last year, missing several commitments in November, such as the events of memory and the performance of the royal variety. “The royal family does not make an illness, and I think it is quite difficult for the queen,” said the friend.

In the aftermath of 2024 and everything he brought – as well as in 2025, as the treatment of Charles cancer continues – the king and the queen “have definitively a renewed perception of what is important for them,” the friend told English.
