“All weekend I kept thinking, ‘I wonder what Jimmy Kimmel is going to say about this on Monday,'” he said, before getting his first beep: “And then I was like, ‘Oh shit! I’m Jimmy Kimmel on Monday.'”
But before he started his jokes, Anderson, who hosts the show all week, had a message.
“In all seriousness, I want to say that our thoughts are with the families of the victims,” he said, before getting his second beep: “And I hope this is a moment where we can all step back from the hatred and vitriol in our politics and maybe relax a little bit.”
He also gave some tips for coping with the current climate.
“Don’t go on the Internet!” he urged, before launching into the evening’s jokes.
